REVVED UP KIDS SAFER TEEN GIRLS PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Teen girls face a higher than average risk of attacks by strangers, and 1 in 6 girls will experience a rape before turning 22. Additionally, Atlanta is a top city in the world for child sex trafficking, and the average age of a victim is 12-14. Are you confident that your daughter understands these risks and knows how to stay safe? Revved Up Kids Safer Teen Girls teaches participants to recognize and avoid dangerous situations and people, and to escape an attacker if necessary. The program includes the following components:

  • Target Avoidance Training –participants learn the behaviors that make someone an easier target for violence, how to use voice and body with power to deter a threat, and the power of instinct as a safety tool. Participants learn that there are three parts of an attack, and only one of those is controlled by the attacker. This segment also includes group situational awareness discussion.
  • Online Dangers – teen girls are manipulated and victimized online at alarming rates; additionally, social media is now the number one way traffickers lure their victims. The training will open participants’ eyes to the dangerous people they can encounter online and provide them with action steps to stay safe.
  • Relationship Violence – 1 in 3 girls in a dating relationship experiences abuse, and 80% of girls and women who experience physical abuse at the hands of a spouse or dating partner do not leave the relationship. The session includes a powerful statistical exercise to illustrate the pervasiveness of intimate partner violence and helps girls understand the early signs of abuse and set high standards in their dating relationships.
  • Physical Self-Defense Training – Participants will learn simple defensive tactics and practice them full force during the workshop. Tactics include high, middle and low body targets.
  • Improvising Weapons – Participants will learn how to use everyday items carried on their person as defensive weapons.
  • Responding to a Weapon – Participants will learn how to respond to an attacker carrying a weapon.
  • Review – Session ends with Q&A. All participants will receive take home review resources, including access to our practice at home self-defense video series.  Parents receive follow up resources to help maintain an ongoing dialogue with their daughters.

Note for parents of pre-teens: This session will include straightforward discussion of rape, relationship abuse and trafficking; parents of pre-teens should consider this before enrolling their children. Feel free to contact Revved Up Kids 678.526.3335 if you’d like to discuss the training, or your child’s readiness to participate, in more detail.
